Living Skills Assistant (Part Time)

Under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher the assistant will work with students with unique medical needs that require a higher level of support and intervention. They will act as active members of the educational team in providing services to students.
Qualifications
- Ability to work with special needs students who may require specialized health care needs along with monitoring social and behavioral goals
- Ability to work well with students, staff and parents; good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage and respond in stressful situations
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including basic software applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to organize and prioritize and to follow classroom guidelines as put forth by classroom teacher
Essential Duties
- Transfer and/or lift students to assist them in the performance of their daily activities
- Assist students to follow individual daily schedules
- Assist students with personal hygiene to provide for and/or develop students’ daily living activities and behavioral skills
- May be required to assist students who need support in addressing personal care needs due to a severe medical condition and/or physical limitations (i.e. toileting, feeding, dressing suctioning, etc) to ensure their functioning in a school environment
- Accompany, assist and monitor students as needed in all other areas of school program outside of classroom (i.e. mainstream classes, community, vocational, transportation to and from home as appropriate, etc.)
- Evaluate specific needs/problems of students using equipment and/or aids to meet special needs for supporting health, social and behavioral goals
- Monitor individual and/or small student groups in classroom and/or on the playground to maintain a safe and positive learning environment
- Maintain classroom and student equipment to ensure a safe environment
- Perform general clerical tasks, to support the teacher in the maintenance of student files and to provide classroom materials
- Regular and on-time attendance required

Student Research Assistant (Part Time)

Under the supervision of a regular faculty member conducting the research project, the Student Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the faculty member in a variety of non-administrative tasks which may include preparing resources, equipment, materials for the research, and documenting results in support of the research activities.
- Research and collects data through complex techniques and procedures, library research, structured interviews or other project specific methodology.
- Interprets, synthesizes and analyzes data.
- Schedules, organizes and reports on status of research activities.
- Plans and modifies research techniques, procedures, tests, equipment or software management.
- Writes and edits materials for publication and presentation.
- Meets with faculty supervisor on regular basis to maintain ongoing communication regarding the quality of the assistant’s performance.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Experience working independently and in team environment.
- Subject knowledge and oral/written communication skills to discuss and document research progress.
- Ability to work independently, accurately and to problem solves technical and methodological issues that arise during the course of the research.
- Ability to apply sound research techniques, methodology and logical critical analysis. Strong organization and interpersonal skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work comfortably with all individuals in a diverse multicultural environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Editorial Office Oversight
- Under the supervision of the Managing Editor (ME), to oversee the editorial process for manuscripts submitted to the JNCI journals, from submission to transfer to the Production Team: liaising with authors, reviewers, editors and OUP.
- Monitor journal inboxes and submission systems ensuring a timely and appropriate response to all email queries and accurate record keeping in the submission system.
- Work with the ME where required to efficiently log and offer support during the investigation of ethical issues following COPE guidelines until resolution.
Workflows, processes and system
- Provides support to external Editors: re-inviting referees, chasing late referees, sending reminders to Editors.
- Working with the ME to ensure that relevant changes and developments are made to the journal submission systems in a timely manner, and that all editors are trained to use the system effectively.
- Working with the ME to proactively troubleshoot and improve processes, policies, and workflows to support better user experience.
- To prepare journal and portfolio level reporting as and when required.
- Working with the ME to assess, improve, and maintain accurate and efficient workflows for all journal processes
Editorial Team Support
- Liaising with OUP Production staff and suppliers as necessary.
- Answer Editors’ questions on the submission system
- Assist Editorial leadership with building and maintaining the Editorial Board.
- To prepare data for journal editorial board meetings, and additional meetings as required, to take minutes and to carry out agreed follow-up actions.
- Working with the ME on special projects as requested
Communication and Reporting
- Prepare regular Editorial status reports on submission volume, acceptance rate, turnaround times, and other KPIs as requested.
- Prepare reports to track performance of Editorial board members.
- Serve as a key point of contact for ME, Publisher, Editors, authors and reviewers.
- Sending external communications on behalf of the journal and its Editors

- Prior editorial or publishing experience
- Experience with Editorial Manager online submission system
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Excellent communication skills
