Part Time Security Background Assistant:

Part Time Hourly Office and Technical Position responsible for obtaining fingerprints utilizing a live scan device for the purposes of conducting Criminal History Background Checks as a condition of Post offer Pre Employment criteria.

Responsibilities :

You Will:

  • Responsible for the physical fingerprinting of persons for a Background Check and or License purposes
  • Responsible for gathering information from persons who self-identify as having a criminal history in their background.
  • Administrative responsibility for creating profile files of record to store background check information.

Basic Qualifications :

You Have:

  • Demonstrated Guest service skills
  • Maintain a high level of detail and scrutiny for an entire shift
  • Demonstrated verbal and written skills as well as strong telephone etiquette skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building relationships

Duties Summary

Qualifying General Work Experience: Any work experience which may involve the basic skills: reading, writing, computation and communication.

Substitutions Allowed:
The following may be substituted for education:

  • Four (4) years of full time general work experience may be substituted for a high school diploma.
  • Successful completion of semester credits leading towards a degree or diploma from an accredited community college, college or university, trades school, etc., may be substituted up to four (4) years of the education requirement (15 semester credits = 6 months).
  • An Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited community college, college or university, trades school, etc., may be substituted for the education requirement.

The following may be substituted for experience:

  • Successful completion of semester credits leading towards a degree or diploma from an accredited community college, business or technical school, college, or university may be substituted up to two (2) years of the general work experience requirement.- (15 semester credits = 6 months).
  • An Associate’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the general work experience requirement.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to four (4) years of the general work experience requirement.

  • A Master’s or PhD degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, public safety or a related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one (1) year of work experience in the enforcement of security regulations or in the protection of property.

If a degree is used to substitute for the education requirement, it may not be used again towards the experience requirement. If work experience is used to substitute for education, it may not be used again to meet the experience requirement. If the applicant holds more than one degrees, transcripts must be provided and a thorough review will be conducted by the DHR staff in order for more than one degree to be credited towards the minimum qualification requirements. Additional degrees can be considered if obtained independently through mutually exclusive classes from another degree being considered. Substitutions will be used to the advantage of the applicant.

Quality of Experience: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant’s overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.

License Requirement: At the time of appointment, the candidate selected need to possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and any other appropriate licenses or certificates if the position requires it.

Knowledge of: Principles and techniques of law enforcement relating to the protection and security of property; methods of maintaining law and order.

Ability to: Understand and follow oral and written instructions; learn, explain, and enforce laws, rules, and regulations relating to park and recreational facilities and uses; prepare written reports; use common hand tools; deal tactfully and effectively with the public.

Security Officer – Part Time:

The position of Campus Safety Officer supports the mission of the Department of Campus Safety to foster and maintain a safe and secure environment for its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Campus Safety Officers will be required to execute a number of comprehensive and integrated security measures and countermeasures and must be able to adapt physically and psychologically to the changing needs and priorities of the Department of Campus Safety and the University.

Qualifications:

Required Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent and NYS Security Guard License.

Preferred Education:
Some college-level courses or background. NYC Fire Safety Director Certification.

Required Experience:
1+ years experience in a position or activity where integrity and reliability were essential to carrying out the duties, or the equivalent.

Preferred Experience:
Private Security, Military, or Law Enforcement.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures. Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Security Officers must possess and maintain New York State security guard licensure throughout the course of their employment, including participation in, and successful completion of, any legally mandated training, including but not limited to on-the- job training and/or annual in-service requirements. They must also possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license Working Conditions: Security Officers may be exposed to the attendant discomfort or elements of serving outdoors for prolonged periods of time in inclement weather conditions, including walking or standing for extended periods while on duty, climbing and descending stairs, and foot patrolling. Physical Requirements: Applicants must be in good health and must have and retain physical strength, including the ability to lift items up to 50 lbs., physical stamina, and agility, visual and auditory acuity to perform the essential responsibilities of his position. Applicants must be able to operate departmental equipment, including radios, use hands repetitively, and have the ability to listen and communicate calmly, effectively, and courteously in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
